During the month of July, Covenant has been highlighting our mission partner, Austin Voices for Education and Youth (AVEY). Our goal has been to educate our members and friends about the organization, and to provide options for ways to serve.
One way we helped during the month is by collecting laundry supplies. Covenant AVEY liaison Lynn Bell said AVEY is very thankful for Covenant’s generous donations.
“Plastic laundry baskets loaded with detergent, fabric softener and dryer sheets filled our pick-up truck's bed and backseat to the brim!" Lynn said. “AVEY is particularly grateful for the many bottles of detergent, which can be quite expensive for those of limited means.”
“We had a great response and AVEY was thrilled to get our donation,” Covenant Mission Director Whitney Bell said. “Some people weren’t able to get stuff to me at the church so Lynn is taking extra items to AVEY. If you’ve got something to donate, contact Lynn, (512) 968-1425.
Anther way AVEY continues to help their neighbors in need during the pandemic is to offer multiple drive-through food pantries. Up until the pandemic forced us all inside, AVEY had several food pantries in various neighborhoods. In the attached video, Lynn talked about helping at the organization’s mobile pantry last summer.
Though the scene has changed, and folks now get a pre-packed box of needed staples, the goal is the same: to provide quality food to families in need.
AVEY needs volunteers at multiple locations to put the pre-packed bags of food in the backseats of cars driving through. AVEY is taking great precautions to keep volunteers safe. Sign up to help with a food pantry here. Learn about COVID-19 safety procedures here.
AVEY asks for Covenant’s continued prayers.
