Unburdened
Lifting burdens. Loving our neighbors.
Every day, people in our city face burdens that can make it harder to find stability: an unexpected medical bill, a high-interest loan, an overdue rent payment, or the loss of an essential document.
Throughout Scripture, God calls his people to care for those carrying heavy burdens and to participate in the work of release, restoration, and renewal.
Through Unburdened, Covenant is investing $200,000 in four trusted community partners working to remove financial and practical barriers for our neighbors across Austin.
See the story behind Unburdened and meet some of the people helping make this work possible across our city.
Four investments. One city we love.
Rather than creating new programs, Covenant is supporting organizations already doing meaningful work in our community. Together, these investments address four burdens that can stand between our neighbors and greater stability.
Housing Stability
Foundation Communities | $75,000
Rental assistance and wraparound support will help Austin families facing housing instability remain safely and stably housed.
Medical Debt
Undue medical debt | $75,000
Covenant’s investment will help eliminate qualifying medical debt for residents in one of Austin’s lowest-income ZIP codes, with current estimates of more than $14 million in debt relief.
Predatory Lending
St. Vincent de Paul | $25,000
This investment will help neighbors escape high-interest payday loans by replacing predatory debt with affordable financing and ongoing financial support.
ID Recovery
Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid | $25,000
Without identification, even basic steps toward stability can become difficult. This investment will help neighbors recover vital documents needed for employment, housing, healthcare, and other essential services.
Why Unburdened?
In the Lord’s Prayer, we pray, “forgive us our debts.”
Throughout Scripture, we encounter a God concerned with release, restoration, justice, and care for people carrying significant burdens.
Unburdened is one way Covenant is putting that calling into practice.
We know $200,000 cannot solve every challenge facing our city. But through trusted community partners, it can remove real obstacles for thousands of our neighbors and create opportunities for greater stability and a new beginning.
As Jill shared:
“Participating in God’s story includes being awake to the needs of the world and loving neighbors well.”
That is the heart of Unburdened: noticing the burdens our neighbors carry and joining God’s work of helping lift them.
Faith Beyond Our Walls
For more than 65 years, Covenant has sought to put faith into action by serving Austin and the world. Unburdened continues that story, using resources entrusted to our church to care for our neighbors and strengthen the community we call home.
