9:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday Service
Traditional worship at Covenant, offered on Sunday at 9:30 and 11 a.m., combines the elements of Reformed liturgy with thoughtful, biblical preaching and rich choral music. Our hope is to draw all worshippers into a profound engagement with God. The Covenant atmosphere is one of relaxed reverence. From the opening procession of acolytes and cross, to the sparkling sounds of a handbell prelude or children’s choir, the mood of worship ranges from quietly reverent to expressively joyful.
We celebrate Holy Communion monthly. Preaching seeks to be biblically rich and culturally relevant, speaking to both the mind and the heart as our pastors challenge worshippers to an ever-maturing faith and discipleship in Christ. Sermons are typically part of an ongoing series, tracking with mid-week Bible studies. We thoughtfully select liturgy and readings and invite lay persons of all ages to read at worship. We appreciate this inter-generational leadership.
Far more than merely “religious entertainment”, we value our music, a valid and profound expression of worship that has drawn many people into our congregation. We have a strong traditional base in congregational hymn singing supported by a grand pipe organ. We also select an creatively eclectic mix of choral music, ranging from a cappella anthems sung in Latin to modern repertoire, including African-American spirituals, even gospel and jazz. Our Sanctuary Choir, 60 voices strong, presents special music services throughout the year. Highlights include the annual “Jazz Sunday” along with lovely services and concerts during Advent and Holy Week. The earthy sounds of the monthly Folk-Celtic Band add further color to worship.
The Covenant family recognizes its diversity and celebrates that as a gift of God. Thus, Covenant seeks to be a gracious and welcoming place for all of God’s people.
Childcare is provided for both services.

8:15 a.m. Worship Service
Covenant’s traditional 8:15 service differs in that the congregation is smaller, communion is celebrated weekly (with worshippers grouping intimately in a circle), and there is no choral music leadership. Won’t you join us?
Wednesday Service of Morning Prayer
The Wednesday Service of Morning Prayer, a midweek worship for early risers, is held in the chapel of the Fellowship and Education Building. This brief, lay-led service, which runs from 7 to 7:30 a.m., generally follows the set format for morning prayer in our Book of Common Worship. It is rich in liturgical and spontaneous prayers, purposeful silences, a sung, newly translated metrical psalm and scripture readings drawn from passages for the coming Sunday. Some go to coffee afterward to continue the fellowship. For more information, contact Don Davis at (512) 476-5028. (This service takes a summer hiatus.)
For a real treat, make sure to join Covenant during one of our special services. You might catch Youth Sunday, when the message is given by members of Student Ministries, or you may want to check out Jazz Sunday, when Dr. Brown provides a fun-filled, toe-tapping worship service with a full jazz band. There are several unique services that involve people of all ages and areas of the church. Keep an eye on the calendar to see what’s coming up.
