Movin’ & Groovin’ Needs a New Coordinator
Movin’ & Groovin’ is Covenant’s ministry that collects gently used furniture and delivers it to families recovering from homelessness. It’s been around since 2005, and it serves clients of nonprofits like the Foundation for the Homeless, Austin Voices for Education and Youth, and Front Steps.
Effective Jan. 1, volunteer coordinator Paul Mowry is retiring. A search for a replacement is underway. The job requires two to four hours per week and involves receiving phone calls or emails, and arranging pickups and deliveries that take place on Saturday mornings. Currently, teams from Bethany UMC, Austin Stone and Catalyst Teen Center provide teams of volunteers the first three Saturdays each month. Storage is maintained near Parmer and MoPac.
To volunteer, contact Paul at (512) 422-5608 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

M&G Mission: We collect gently used basic furniture and deliver it to families exiting homelessness under the case management of the Foundation for the Homeless/Interfaith Hospitality Network and selected other nonprofit organizations that support the homeless in the Austin metro area. We are a mission of Covenant Presbyterian Church.
M&G Vision: We believe enough unused furniture exists to satisfy the requirements of every needy family in the area. We believe the challenge simply is to move that furniture from point A to point B, hence our slogan “It’s all God’s stuff – we just move it around.” Our prayer is that Movin’ and Groovin’, with the help of volunteers from other Austin churches and organizations, grows to a point where it is able to satisfy every need.
Scriptural Foundation: Matthew 25:35 – “For I was hungry, and you gave me food: I was thirsty, and you gave me drink: I was a stranger, and you took me in.”
