Covenant offers numerous programs for our older adults, enabling them to continue to participate in church life through programs and events well suited for their specific needs and desires. These fellowship and congregational care opportunities enrich the lives of our senior members, and provide fun and interesting activities. Many of these activities are considered VISIONS events, or “Very Interesting Seniors Investigating Our New Season of life.” Covenant’s senior adults take part in monthly outings and meetings, special events and ongoing churchwide programs. We encourage all to join in – even those who are not “older.” These programs are open to visitors and persons of all ages. Space is the only thing that limits our participation, especially on some of our travel outings where we fill spots on a first-come, first-served basis.

Covenant’s Armchair Travelers have had adventures all over the world without leaving the Sanctuary. This group is for our members and guests who enjoy seeing new sights and fun places, while experiencing great travel companions and tasty treats. This monthly meeting is open to anyone wishing to see the world through someone else’s eyes. Those who have taken the trips personally narrate our presentations. Armchair Travelers — the “next best thing” to being there! Join the group on the first Thursday of each month from September through May at 7 p.m. in FE 200. For more information or to present one of your travel adventures, contact Fred Hartmann at firstname.lastname@example.org or (512) 345-4181.
On the first Tuesday of the month, our older members and guests gather in FE 200 for VISIONS Activities Day. This is a day jam-packed with activities: games and puzzles, lunch and a popular recent movie. We start at 10 a.m., enjoy a delicious lunch at noon and start the movie at 1 p.m. We appreciate a contribution for lunch and invite you to come for all the activities or for only part of the day. For more information, contact Martha Bombaugh at email@example.com.
Join VISIONS on the third Tuesday of each month at 11:45 a.m. for good food and great fellowship, followed by an entertaining program. These programs are interesting and provide relevant information. Our presentations have included talks about the LBJ Library, security in the Middle East, our city’s safety by Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo, holiday music and more. Please call the church office to make a reservation at 512-454-5231. The cost of lunch is $6 or whatever amount you are able to pay, paid at the door. Details regarding the programs are published in Covenant Matters. Visitors, guests and friends of all ages are always welcome. Reservations are required; call the church office at 512-454-5231. For more information, contact Sue Roberts at firstname.lastname@example.org or (512) 454-5231.
Our VISIONS Travel Committee plans an interesting outing each month from September through May. We enjoy a variety of places, sometimes leaving Austin and sometimes finding things to do right here. We travel to local sites of interest, including museums, nature cruises, theatrical and music venues, factories, emergency response and medical training facilities, and churches of special architecture or religious art. We usually schedule one overnight trip to take advantage of special events. Our group uses the church bus and van, which accommodate about 30 people. We depart in the morning, eat in a restaurant along the way, and return to the church by late afternoon. Sign-up sheets are posted on the patio each month and names are added on a first-come, first-served basis. Costs vary, as do days of the week. For more information, contact Bonnie Hartmann at email@example.com or (512) 345-5916.
