Definition and Purpose
Covenant’s Presbyterian Women (PW) is part of a national group that offers opportunities for women to grow in their faith and in their friendships. PW offers learning, serving and fellowship opportunities through Bible study Circles, mission projects, and special events and trips. The PW honors a Covenant woman each year with a lifetime achievement award.
We invite you to join a PW Circle!
The PW Bible Study Circles meet once a month during the school year for Bible study, prayer, fellowship, and mission. These circles of faith and friendship welcome new members while embracing long-time connections. We encourage women to find a circle that works best for their schedule, or start one of their own. Cloud of Witnesses: The Community of Christ in Hebrews
The 2017-2018 PW/Horizons Bible study is “Cloud of Witnesses: The Community of Christ in Hebrews”. Women are invited to explore major themes found in Hebrews, relate these themes to other parts of our faith tradition, and tie them together with the overarching motif of community. The community for which the letter, or homily, was written interacts, in a sense, with all communities of which we are a part, as we bring these groups with us wherever we go. This ever-present “great cloud of witnesses” (Heb. 12:1) strengthens and encourages us as we “run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith” (Heb. 12:1b-2).
Spring Luncheon: May 9, 2018
All women are invited to a Spring Luncheon on Wednesday, May, from 11 a.m. to 1:00 pm. in FEB. Bring a friend and enjoy hearing Covenant member and mother of eight speak about “Hoping and Planning: Our Journey from Zero to Eight.” This is also a time of fellowship with other Covenant women to celebrate another vibrant year of Bible study and mission. We will also take a minute to dedicate the Birthday Offering, collected by all Presbyterian Women every April, which this year will go to ministries providing “homes and safe places.”
To share our love with Austin, you may bring donations for the Rainbow Room which supports children in the Child Protective Services system. Urgent needs are toiletries for teens—deodorant, shampoo (especially black hair care products) or gift cards to Old Navy, Ross, Penneys, and Target. You may also bring baby shampoo, powder, lotion, oil and diaper rash cream.
Lunch will be an enhanced salad bar prepared especially for us by Chef Mark; a $10 donation is requested. Childcare is available with reservations through email@example.com. To help with planning but not necessary to attend, please make lunch reservations with PW Moderator, Lisa Fry firstname.lastname@example.org or (512) 983-1660.
Girl’s Night Out
Every fall, the ladies go out. This event takes place in Fellowship Hall. The women are treated to a gourmet dinner and some entertainment.
The Presbyterian Coffee Project, a collaboration of the PC(USA) and Equal Exchange, enables congregations to share in protecting the environment and connecting with small farmers who produce food in a sustainable way. Presbyterian Women are selling various coffee blends in regular and decaf, whole bean and ground, for $10/12 oz. For more information, contact Mission Coordinator Christi Florey, (512) 241-2890 or email@example.com.
